P.I. Monument voor een Crisis 2013

Monument voor een Crisis is a public intervention (p.i.) that will be on show during the city exhitibion “Kortrijk Vlaandert, van provincie naar provincie” in Kortrijk, Belgium. 4.7-18.8.2013.

In English “Monument for a Crisis” is an experience architecture allowing the spectator to get a bodily experience of what a crisis entails. The work takes the form of a tunnel in the shape of the lower section of a Gaussian function/distribution … but ending just before it hits rock bottom.

The architecture was conceived to allow both a pessimistic outlook, entering the tunnel through the largest opening and feeling the available space shrink and shrink until there’s nearly no room anymore to get out … as well as the optimistic outlook, starting from the smallest opening and already seeing the abundance of space at the end of the tunnel.

Unfortunately,
construction of the tunnel has been cancelled due to the current economic crisis.
